Well, it has been an extended hiatus away from Fine Arts & Freckles but I have returned with excitement. I have been feeling a little overwhelmed in the ‘arts & crafts’ department for a little while now but I am determined to get back on track. I saw something on Instagram a while ago that really hit me:
…not sure how it exactly happened but so many ideas of projects I want to do just got all jumbled in my head and for some reason I just stopped doing anything!
So here are some of the things I am excited for:
1. Cooking – I am just at the tail’s end of a one week cleanse/eating challenge and while it has been difficult it has really started inspiring me in the kitchen to think about things I would like to make that I never have. Cold rolls are near the top of the list!
2. Sewing – A couple of months ago I decided to redeem some AirMiles points as I suspect I will never have enough for a flight (Aeroplan is another story) and purchased a sewing machine. Not going to start with anything too ambitious but I have been eyeing up our too long living room curtains for about a year and I have a couple of really great pillows that came with not-as-great covers that I would like to attempt to create new covers for.
3. Designing – I am not so sure where I want to start here but I love stationery and notebooks and cards so instead of talking about it so much I am going to carve out some creative time for myself and start designing.
I also heard about a pottery class this spring that sounded pretty interesting. I think I might be too late for registration but I am still looking into it.
It is 21:30 and I am working late at home. The plus? The fall weather has started arriving, which means beautiful sweaters and mugs of tea. Our good friends Heather and Dave made biscotti for a dinner party we hosted last week and there were leftovers so that makes my night even more enjoyable!
Ack! What a whirlwind May-June it has been! I was fully engrossed in a conference I was coordinating called MoSo, which is a mobile/social (plus many more things) conference held annually in Saskatoon, SK. What fun it was. 🙂
I met SO many amazing people, we had speakers fly in from all over North America and even though it rained the entire time and things weren’t always 100% perfect I feel extremely happy and proud of the event. We had such a fantastic team of committee members and volunteers to pull it together in the months leading up to MoSo, it is easy when you are attending a conference to forget about how much work it takes to put something like this together. I can assure you, many 1:00 and 2:00am nights were had! That being said we are already planning for 2014 and it is going to be even better! #moso2013
Welcome May! The weather is steadily climbing in Saskatoon, so I will not mention the snow we had earlier this week! It is time for beautiful flowers to start blooming and the grass to turn a healthy shade of green.
This photo was taken last November in the Conservatory at the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon. So many beautiful flowers and plants to enjoy there.
Enjoy May! I am going to post more sizes of this desktop calendar this week but here are a couple to get you started.
Gorgeous…no? Rifle Paper Company has come out with iPhone cases! Which is pretty brilliant of them in my opinion. I love their designs so much and now they can be admired encasing your phone! My latest case was purchased at the beginning of January so it will be a while before I can justify getting a new one. But that doesn’t mean I can’t admire them in the time being…
I was just at SXSW for the past week (and spent the week before that packing our apartment and getting ready for SXSW) and am still trying to wrap my head around all of the things that I was inspired by while there.
I am planning to put together a post about my experience there but for now I would like to post probably the most inspirational talk I went to – Tina Roth Eisenberg speaking on her 11 rules to live by. I have been in awe of her for quite some time and was so happy to have a chance to see her in real life and hear her talk about her passion.
Assignment #2 for CDS502…really makes me miss Australia and Miss Shannan Kuun! But while making it it was a great reminder to keep going on adventures and living life to the fullest. In the deep cold of winter all I really seem to want to do is snuggle up and hibernate for a few months but things like this remind me to get up off my butt and DO SOMETHING! Hope it does the same thing for you 🙂
I have dropped the blogging ball! Jumping back on the wagon though, I really enjoy my blog. Furthering my passions via education this past year has been something I have been focusing on in my spare time, which has sometimes meant long days and studying over lunch hours at work. Right now I am involved in a three week workshop through Queens University all about online branding strategy and it has been great! It is with Sidneyeve Matrix and I have had the pleasure of studying in three of her classes so far and have had such a great experience delving into the world of digital media and strategy. Above is one of the assignments we have had to do so far, an interactive resume using ‘Vizify’. Lots of fun, such a great site to use, and lots of flexibility to make it unique to you. Hope you enjoy my vizify profile, let me know if you have one of your own — I would love to see more!
A pixel bow tie! What a funny creation. I found this the other day on The Fancy and immediately thought about all of the gentleman in my life that could make good use out of something like this! I looked into it a bit further and found that is was a creation by Tiemension and that is also comes in assorted colours! Who wouldn’t want to own something this fantastic?
